Your smile is the first thing people notice when you meet them for the first time – not your clothes or shoes. While a charming and attractive smile can do wonders, a flawed smile can make one look unattractive and less friendly. If you look in the mirror every day and don’t feel happy about your teeth or smile, cosmetic dentistry offers many options to fix a crooked smile. Whether you have teeth stains that affect your self-confidence, or you have teeth gaps that prevent you from smiling in public, porcelain veneers are your best option to enjoy a beautiful, healthy, and attractive smile.
But why porcelain veneers? Why not other cosmetic dentistry options? You may ask. Well, this article will answer your questions. Here are 5 reasons why dental veneers are the best option for restoring a flawed smile or crooked teeth.
Unlike dental fillings, which are placed directly into the patient’s teeth, dental veneers are carefully designed and prepared in a Houston dental laboratory. This means that dental veneers will have fewer structural defects and have superior color-matching and esthetics than direct fillings. That is why dentists often recommend porcelain veneers when the best esthetic outcome is desired.
Dental veneers can be used to treat a variety of dental restorative and cosmetic issues. For example, veneers are excellent for masking permanent teeth stains and to correct minor teeth gaps. They are also suitable for restoring mild to moderate defects caused by tooth decay. Finally, veneers can also be used to fix the shape of teeth damaged due to trauma or an accidental injury.
If your dentist has recommended orthodontic treatment for fixing tooth misalignment or teeth gaps – and you cannot afford the treatment – no need to worry: if you are looking for affordable dentistry options for fixing these problems cosmetically, porcelain veneers can be an excellent option. However, veneers only provide a cosmetic solution to these orthodontic problems and do not fix the underlying issue.
Dental veneers do not require removing a significant amount of healthy tooth structure for their attachment; your dentist will only remove a thin layer of the dental enamel to create space for veneers bonding. On the other hand, dental crowns require removing excessive natural tooth structure, leading to an increased risk of long-term complications such as tooth sensitivity, dental cavities, and periodontal problems. Therefore, dental veneers are a tooth-conservative dental treatment option for restoring mild to moderate cosmetic or restorative tooth defects.
You might be thinking that getting veneers may cause significant pain and discomfort. However, this is not the case. If you are looking for pain free dentistry, veneers are a good choice. Although your dentist will remove a thin layer of the dental enamel, the thickness of the removed tooth structure will be so thin that it will make your teeth sensitive. Similarly, the process involving the bonding of the veneers to the prepared teeth is also completely painless. However, if your dentist feels that you may experience pain during the tooth preparation procedure, they will give you anesthesia to make you comfortable and pain-free.
