During a routine dental checkup, your child’s dentist tells you that your kid needs braces to fix their teeth. Don’t worry; you’re not alone! Many parents go through this every day. But as a parent, you might still be wondering why dental braces from Royal Dental in Houston are necessary and when they are needed. In this blog, you will learn everything you need to know about dental braces and how they fix various orthodontic problems. So, continue reading to find out answers to your questions!
Dental braces from Royal Dental in Houston are fixed appliances that are bonded to the teeth. Braces, also called brackets, have slots within them through which an orthodontic wire passes and connects all the teeth in a jaw. The wire is joined to the brackets using rubber elastics or ties. The tension generated in the wire pushes the teeth and moves them in the desired direction. Dentists adjust the tension exerted on the brackets using different types and gauges of wires, which gradually move your teeth in optimal alignment.
Conventionally, metal-based orthodontic braces were used for tooth alignment. However, today, there are several fixed braces options available to choose from. For example, tooth-colored ceramic braces are available for people who don’t like to wear conspicuous metal braces. Similarly, lingual, or invisible braces are available. These braces are similar in design to conventional metal braces. However, instead of being bonded to the front surface of the teeth, they are attached to inner tooth surfaces (facing the tongue). As a result, these braces are invisible despite being made from metal alloys.
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends scheduling your child’s first visit to an orthodontist by their seventh birthday, or when there are visible signs of tooth misalignment. Although the orthodontist will not start treatment with braces right away, they will diagnose the underlying problem and take measures to reduce its severity. At this stage, your child’s jaws are still developing and your orthodontist can utilize it to redirect their growth so that it is easier to treat the issue with braces later on. Dental experts recommend that treatment with braces Houston should start once all the permanent teeth in a child have come in. On the other hand, there is no maximum age limit for getting braces. Whether you are sixteen or sixty, you can get your teeth straightened with braces Houston.
Not everyone needs treatment with braces. Only those individuals who have underlying tooth or jaw misalignment problems need to wear braces or Invisalign Houston. The goal is to ensure optimal alignment of the teeth. Many parents think that optimal tooth alignment is only essential for having a beautiful smile. This is not correct. Our teeth help us eat and speak; if our teeth are not aligned properly, they will be able to chew food effectively. As a result, tooth misalignment can also cause generalized health issues such as malnutrition, indigestion, and weakness. More importantly, misaligned or crowded teeth are difficult to clean and promote plaque and tartar deposition. As a result, people with orthodontic problems are at a higher risk of developing gum disease and tooth decay due to poor oral hygiene. Finally, misalignment of the teeth can also create difficulty in speaking and pronouncing words clearly.
From minor tooth crowding to extremely complex bite problems, dental braces are a time-tested and reliable option to fix virtually all orthodontic issues. Our dentists will advise a suitable treatment option after a careful clinical examination and treatment planning.
