Clear Aligners vs. Traditional Braces – What you should know.
The introduction of Clear Aligners in the dental profession has brought a revolution in providing orthodontics treatment for irregular and crooked teeth. They are virtually invisible from the front, which makes them appealing and acceptable for those who are shy of wearing conventional metal braces publicly. Now patients can choose between traditional metal braces or clear aligners.
Clear aligners are a great alternative to traditional wire and bracket orthodontics. The advanced technology of Clear aligners makes them equally effective compared to conventional metal braces. Plus, they offer several benefits compared to traditional braces.
Read on to learn more about Clear Aligners and the benefits they offer.
Virtually Invisible:
As the name “clear” indicates, the Aligner treatment is less noticeable than traditional braces. Treatment is completed without being noticed, is one of the biggest benefit Aligner treatment offers. They are designed professionally to lessen the prominence of the appliance to better fit any lifestyle.
Removable:
Aligners can be removed during eating, brushing, or on special occasions for a short duration. Remember minimum 22 hours wear duration is necessary for smooth working of clear aligners.
Comfortable:
No wires and no discomfort is what clear aligners offer. Since there are no brackets or wires, clear aligners are extremely comfortable to wear.
Easy to clean:
Aligners can be removed, allowing ease to maintain hygiene of the oral cavity, teeth, and the appliance itself.
Special cases:
Aligners can be used in cases where traditional braces fail to deliver, e.g., bonding problems due to developmental defects of teeth.
Bruxism
Aligners may also help to reduce bruxism i.e., unconscious grinding of teeth as they cover the top of the teeth, which is an added benefit.
Fewer emergencies
Since there are no poking wires or risk of broken brackets, clear aligners offer great benefit in reducing orthodontic emergencies. However, clear aligner treatment can turn into an emergency if lost or broken.
Fewer dentist appointments
Clear Aligner treatment also offers a remote treatment monitoring, which helps to reduce the number of visits to the dentist.
These benefits make Clear Aligners a popular orthodontic treatment of choice.
Clear Aligner treatment is not for everyone!
Clear Aligners might not be the ideal solution for every case. Several factors are to be considered before choosing Clear Aligners as an orthodontics treatment option. Most common reasons why you might not be a suitable candidate for the treatment:
