If you are thinking of getting your teeth straightened, you might be stuck between the two most used treatment options; braces and Invisalign aligners. Choosing between these two options is not easy, as each has its own merits and demerits. But no need to worry; this blog provides a comparative overview of braces and Invisalign aligners so that you can make an informed decision. So, read on to find out which orthodontic treatment option suits you best.
Traditional braces are metallic appliances bonded to the teeth using an adhesive. Each bracket contains a slot through which an orthodontic wire connects all the teeth. The movement of the teeth is brought about by the tension in the wire. On the other hand, the Invisalign system is based on removable, tray-like aligners worn over the teeth. Each aligner set (one for each jaw) is worn for about 2 weeks. The aligners are designed so that each set gradually moves your teeth realigns them. In this way, each aligner set brings you one step closer to a beautiful and healthy smile.
A common issue associated with fixed braces is their conspicuous metallic appearance. If esthetics are your primary concern, then Invisalign Houston might be a better option for you. This is because Invisalign aligners are made from flexible and transparent material. As a result, they are virtually inconspicuous when worn.
Many braces wearers often complain of soft tissue injuries and difficulty speaking and eating. Invisalign aligners have eliminated this problem as they are made soft and flexible. As a result, they cause lesser discomfort and pain during treatment.
Braces wearers are asked by their dentists to avoid hard and sticky foods. This is because these food items can dislodge their brackets and hamper the treatment progress. On the other hand, a beneficial feature of Invisalign Houston aligners is that they can be removed while eating. Hence, you can enjoy all your favorite foods with clear aligners.
Optimal teeth cleaning often becomes challenging with braces as it is tough to remove food debris from around the brackets and orthodontic wires. That is why braces wearers are at a higher risk of developing dental problems like tooth decay and gum inflammation. Since the clear aligners are removable, you can easily take them off while brushing or flossing. As a result, removable aligners allow for better oral hygiene maintenance.
Braces are one of the most effective and time-tested options for fixing tooth misalignment. In fact, braces can be used to treat even the most complicated orthodontic issues. However, although clear aligners can fix various orthodontic problems, they may not be suitable for fixing highly complex issues involving the bite.
The duration of treatment for both braces and clear aligners is more or less the same. However, if you have a minor to moderate orthodontic issue, removable aligners may be more suitable if you’re seeking quick results.
Cost is one of the most essential factors in choosing an orthodontic treatment option. Traditional braces of a cost-effective and reliable choice for fixing tooth misalignment. On the other hand, Invisalign, a cosmetic tooth alignment option, generally costs more than fixed braces. If you are looking for affordable braces Houston, you might find several dental offices offering very cheap rates; beware of these practices. Most of these practices will cut costs using inferior quality materials, thereby affecting your treatment outcome.
Choosing an orthodontic treatment option that best suits your needs can be a difficult task – but not impossible. If you are looking for quick results with a cost-effective and reliable treatment option, you should consider affordable braces Houston. Alternatively, if comfort and esthetics are your main concerns, you should go for Invisalign aligners. Your dentist is the best person to guide you regarding an option best suited to your treatment needs.
