Root Canal | Houston, TX

At Royal Dental, patients who are seeking immediate care for their smile when problems exist are welcome to book a consultation visit with our team. Our practice is equipped with solutions for patients who are interested in general, cosmetic, and restorative dentistry. Conditions such as a toothache can impact a patient’s quality of life, and can put them in pain that can keep them from getting through the day—or night. If patients have an infection of the inner tooth canals, they may require a treatment called endodontic therapy, more commonly known as a root canal.

Root canal therapy is a procedure done to save the natural structure of the tooth. This procedure is done to avoid the need to extract a natural adult tooth whenever possible. The team of Royal Dental starts with an evaluation, which may include an x-ray to check the health of the tooth. If it has been determined that there is a problem impacting a tooth that is causing the pain, such as infection, disease, or injury, then plans are put in place to complete root canal therapy.

The procedure begins with proper anesthetic and sedation, if needed. Patients are made comfortable so the entire process is pain-free. The dentist then uses special instruments which allow him to access the inner portion of the tooth which includes a mass of tissues called the dental pulp. The dental pulp includes the blood supply and nerves to the natural tooth to keep it alive. This also results in pain when these nerves are infected. The dentist removes the dental pulp, cleanses the inner canals, disinfects the tooth, and seals it with a material called gutta percha. In many instances, the tooth may also be covered by a custom dental crown to strengthen and protect the tooth structure for many years to come.
